Private Dwellings Occupied

Definition

“Private dwelling refers to a separate set of living quarters with a private entrance either from outside the building or from a common hall, lobby, vestibule or stairway inside the building. The entrance to the dwelling must be one that can be used without passing through the living quarters of some other person or group of persons. A private dwelling occupied by usual residents refers to a private dwelling in which a person or a group of persons is permanently residing (Statistics Canada 2021).”

Why This Matters

“Brandon’s ratio of owned to rented private dwellings has been very consistent over time and represents a healthy mix of opportunities to either buy or rent.  Brandon’s relatively young population, Brandon’s 2021 median age is 39 years versus the Canadian mean of 41.9 years, influences the amount of rented properties as younger families are much more likely to rent then buy (Economics Brandon).”

1. End poverty in all its forms everywhere

1. End poverty in all its forms everywhere

Extreme poverty rates have been cut by more than half since 1990. While this is a remarkable achievement, one in five people in developing regions still live on less than $1.90 a day, and there are millions more who make little more than this daily amount, plus many people risk slipping back into poverty.

Poverty is more than the lack of income and resources to ensure a sustainable livelihood. Its manifestations include hunger and malnutrition, limited access to education and other basic services, social discrimination and exclusion as well as the lack of participation in decision-making. Economic growth must be inclusive to provide sustainable jobs and promote equality.
