Safe & Warm Shelter Usage

Definition

The Safe & Warm Shelter is a 41-bed emergency shelter designated for adults (18+) who experience occasional homelessness. The shelter is fully staffed with trained support workers and security guards who ensure safety and assistance for clients. The Shelter is now open all year long due to extra funding and support. The shelter is currently open nightly from 7:00 pm to 9:00 am (Samaritan House Ministries).

Why This Matters

In an effort to better support those experiencing unsafe housing, sporadic homelessness, hoarding, or domestic abuse, Samaritan House Ministries looks for ways to support various stages of transition from homelessness to safe and secure housing (Samaritan House Ministries).

Measurement and Limitations

In 2020 Safe and Warm expanded its hours during COVID to include limited day time hours.

Data Source

All data was taken from the HIFIS database.

1. End poverty in all its forms everywhere

1. End poverty in all its forms everywhere

Extreme poverty rates have been cut by more than half since 1990. While this is a remarkable achievement, one in five people in developing regions still live on less than $1.90 a day, and there are millions more who make little more than this daily amount, plus many people risk slipping back into poverty.

Poverty is more than the lack of income and resources to ensure a sustainable livelihood. Its manifestations include hunger and malnutrition, limited access to education and other basic services, social discrimination and exclusion as well as the lack of participation in decision-making. Economic growth must be inclusive to provide sustainable jobs and promote equality.
