Hypertension
Description
The indicator measures the percent of residents, aged 19 or older, diagnosed with hypertension, for a one-year time period.
Why This Matters
Hypertension is a disease that brings about high blood pressure. This disease damages the arteries and can lead to numerous heart sicknesses if not maintained. As Brandon houses an ageing population, hypertension rates continue to be prevalent. The assessment of hypertension can help to study causes, effects and treatments for the community.
Key Findings
- The City of Brandon average is significantly greater than the Manitoba average
- The West End has significantly higher count than the rest of the zones
- Residents in the East End are 1.1 times more likely to live with hypertension than residents in the West End
- For all regions, T2 rates have increased slightly from T1 rates

3. Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages
Ensuring healthy lives and promoting the well-being for all at all ages is essential to sustainable development. Significant strides have been made in increasing life expectancy and reducing some of the common killers associated with child and maternal mortality. Major progress has been made on increasing access to clean water and sanitation, reducing malaria, tuberculosis, polio and the spread of HIV/AIDS. However, many more efforts are needed to fully eradicate a wide range of diseases and address many different persistent and emerging health issues.
