It is vital to showcase the amount of older adults living within a populations for many reasons. Looking at demographic trends for individuals 65+ can have implications for local government and private spending on pensions, economy change, health care decisions, and senior education or program needs (OECD, 2021). Currently, elderly population has been growing at a steady rate universally including Canada, United States, Australia and most parts of Europe (OECD, 2021). In order to ensure adequate resources are allocated to this population, it is vital to keep up with current trends among the older adult population.
