Definition
The Homeless Individuals and Families Information System (HIFIS) is a web-enabled Homelessness Management Information System (HMIS) that can provide communities with the information they need to further their efforts with addressing homelessness. It allows multiple service providers from the same geographic area to implement coordinated access using real-time information about people experiencing homelessness (Homelessness Learning Hub).
Why This Matters
HIFIS also allows communities to document client-level service transactions and plans across a broad range of service providers, including shelters, street outreach, housing help centres, and more intensive case management programs like supportive housing. This provides the right tools to support the integrated service environment needed to mobilize a more systems-based approach to prevent and reduce homelessness across Canada (Homelessness Learning Hub).
Measurement and Limitations
This data includes people who are: in absolute homelessness, couch surfing, precariously housed, sleeping rough, staying in shelter, receiving housing loss prevention supports, Housing First clients, or in transitional or supportive housing.
Data Source
All data was taken from the HIFIS database.

1. End poverty in all its forms everywhere
Extreme poverty rates have been cut by more than half since 1990. While this is a remarkable achievement, one in five people in developing regions still live on less than $1.90 a day, and there are millions more who make little more than this daily amount, plus many people risk slipping back into poverty.
Poverty is more than the lack of income and resources to ensure a sustainable livelihood. Its manifestations include hunger and malnutrition, limited access to education and other basic services, social discrimination and exclusion as well as the lack of participation in decision-making. Economic growth must be inclusive to provide sustainable jobs and promote equality.
